Privacy policy
CirrusPrep is guest-first by design: no account, no password, no email required to take a mock exam. This page explains exactly what the small amount of data we do handle is used for.
What's stored on your device
Your in-progress exam or practice session, your local attempt history, your theme, and your flashcard style preference are kept in your browser's localStorage. This never leaves your device on its own — it's how a mock exam survives a page refresh. Clearing your browser data clears it.
What reaches our server
When you submit a mock exam, your answers are graded server-side and the result — score, pass/fail, per-question correctness — is stored so the leaderboard and your restore code (if you set one up) can work. Untimed practice, drills, and flashcards work the same way for whichever parts need server grading or reveal.
Nicknames and the leaderboard
A leaderboard nickname is optional, unverified, and shown publicly — don't use your real name. We run a profanity filter on submission, but nicknames otherwise aren't tied to any identity we verify.
Restore codes — not accounts
If you set up a restore code, we store a one-way hash of your email and a separately hashed PIN — never the raw email or PIN. The email hash is only usable to look up your own restore, not to recover the original address. This exists purely so you can pull your history up on another device; it isn't a login and we don't use it to contact you.
Rate limiting
Restore attempts and leaderboard submissions are rate-limited per IP address to stop abuse. Your IP is used transiently for that check — it isn't linked to your nickname, your answers, or any profile.
Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics for aggregate, cookieless traffic stats — things like page views and which pages get used. It doesn't track you individually across sites, and we don't run any advertising trackers.
What we don't do
No ads, no selling or sharing data with third parties, no marketing email (we don't even have your email unless you set up a restore code, and even then it's hashed). Every question, explanation, and practice mode is free — nothing here is paywalled or gated behind data collection.
